Grants Specialist

This position is an on-campus, full-time, 12-month, Professional Support Staff appointment with an annual salary of $45,088.44.

The Grants Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the grant process such as: preparing, organizing, facilitating, and submitting grants; providing specialized grant-related assistance to applicants; developing and writing/editing grant proposals, reports, budgets, budget narratives, and other grant-related content.

Essential Job Functions

  • Compose grant applications, and proofread/edit narratives, support letters, budgets, etc.
  • Match college needs with grant program opportunities, ensuring that proposed strategies for developing grant programs meet the college's needs while complying with grant guidelines.
  • Effectively and diplomatically communicate with various College administrators, staff, and faculty as well as external program officers and grant partners.
  • Develop budgets in accordance with state, federal, and grantor requirements; write detailed yet concise budget justifications.
  • Coordinate proposal development teams, which may be cross-disciplinary, include both Parkland and non-Parkland personnel, and require delegating tasks; attend project meetings.
  • Comply with proposal deadlines and manage multiple deadlines at the same time.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of changing grant standards; proposal guidelines; and local, state, and national policies that affect grant making at the College.
  • Synthesize and apply information from multiple sources, including: academic and technical subjects; institutional, economic and demographic data; state and federal grant manuals/circulars; college news and achievements, etc.
  • Manage, administer, and maintain active registrations for Parkland federal grant accounts; navigate and effectively utilize various online grant submission portals.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager to determine short and long-term funding objectives and develop annual departmental objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field and at least one year of experience in grant development (or related work experience); or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Verbal, mathematical, and writing abilities sufficient to assist with proposal preparation, produce correspondence, communicate effectively, and perform other duties.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing software.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
