Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Marketing & Communications Director, the Digital & Data Strategist will be a key member of the communications team working in close partnership with Salvation Army officers, development team members and digital peers.

He/she will maintain and grow revenue through an aggressive strategy for multi-channel direct marketing disciplines that include email, telemarketing, mobile, digital, and other media channels. Oversee the performance of all digital fundraising campaigns and analysis for the purpose of retention and upgrade of donor giving. As well as the analysis of performance of websites, social media, digital assets and marketing collateral for The Salvation Army Southern California Division.

Essential Functions



  • Build, plan and implement the overall digital marketing strategy to increase revenue across all fundraising channels.
  • Lead efforts for strategy for all digital marketing campaigns and overall company branding, including content creation and email marketing.
  • Work with digital agency/marketing partners to execute the most efficient and effective mix of paid media, including PPC, SEO, SEM re-targeting, and programmatic.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technology and best practices.
  • Measure ROI and KPIs.
  • Review, provide analysis and recommend improvements for online content, considering SEO and Google Analytics.
  • Build and inbound marketing plan.
  • Management and development of analytics reports on campaign performance.
  • Review content and monitor social media campaigns across our digital channels - Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Work with leadership to develop and monitor the digital marketing budget, ensuring all campaigns fall within budget.
  • Analyze results for digital fundraising campaigns on the Classy fundraising platform.
  • Analyze results of direct response fundraising programs including telemarketing, internet-based appeals, mobile and other direct marketing mediums and recommend strategy for improvement.
  • Recommend and assist in the development of digital marketing efforts in cross-functional teams across the division.
  • Motivate digital marketing team to achieve goals.
  • Review brand consistency with all digital marketing efforts across the division.
  • Participate in Communications Team meetings, to collaborate and maintain consistency within department.
  • Performs other duties as required.


PAY RATE: $110K-$120K/YR

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend squat climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications



  • By virtue of its direct contact with, and representation to people who engage in Salvation Army programs, people who demonstrate an understanding of The Salvation Army's Christian mission are required for this position.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 4+ years in similar marketing roles with experience in website and social media content creation and posting.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Proficient in Google analytics and Google Suite, as well as Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Outlook, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Must have ability to work with, direct, and relate well with co-workers.
  • Able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
