Job Summary
The Virtual ESL Specialist will play a pivotal role in our English as a Second Language (ESL) team, providing coaching, guidance, education, and program-related assistance to clients enrolled in Family Advancement programs, particularly virtual ESL. This part-time position entails a commitment of 20 hours per week, primarily working remotely, during evening hours, with occasional in-person meetings, estimated to occur twice a month. The ESL Coach will be responsible for developing recruitment and enrollment plans, assisting participants in goal setting, providing coaching, facilitating peer support, and connecting participants to community resources. Sets precedent within limits and/or administers operating rules and procedures under management guidance. Performs intermediate troubleshooting or analysis; problems require interpretation of data using generally prescribed procedures. Frequent interaction to provide basic information and/or occasional interaction requiring detailed procedural explanations or technical responses.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions


  • Establish rapport with participants, provide feedback and guidance, and support the development of academic and soft skills in a virtual setting
  • Design, plan, and implement recruitment strategies to identify, enroll, and onboard prospective participants, aiming to meet program enrollment goals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to make referrals, follow-up, and provide comprehensive participant support.
  • Review participant attendance and retention data, making recommendations to support participants and achieve programmatic goals.
  • Collect, data enter, and review participant records in required program data systems, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Collaborate with ESL instructors, internal and external partners, and leadership to monitor academic progress and improve the participant experience.
  • Provide basic technology troubleshooting (remotely) for participants to engage in a virtual learning environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.



Required Education/Experience


  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate work experience in human services, adult education, program administration, or related field
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • 3-5 years of prerequisite-related work experience



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


  • Ability to attend occasional on-site meetings as needed.
  • Compliance with local tax and employment regulations.
  • Experience and expertise providing coaching, teaching, or tutoring adult learners in a virtual setting.
  • Experience delivering presentations or training in a variety of in-person and virtual settings.
  • Must have proven successful in-person and virtual interpersonal skills to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with team, other staff, vendors, clients, visitors, and contractors.
  • Must have proven experience working with and advocating for the needs of diverse populations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with ability to read, interpret, and present information efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to accurately audit records and ensure compliance with written or oral guidelines.
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure in a team setting.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of extremely sensitive data, records, files, conversations, etc.
  • Intermediate-Advanced Office 365, database skills, and ability to effectively operate remote technology
  • Advanced organizational skills, efficiency skills and excellent attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to completing assignments on a timely basis.



Work location
This role is primarily remote, with occasional on-site meetings required. Employees are expected to physically report to assigned work site as scheduled by supervisor or intermittently as needed.
Essential Physical & Mental Requirements
Work occurs in a remote, office environment. Employees are subject to standing, stooping, walking, lifting, and carrying objects throughout daily job performance. Intermittent effort involving lifting amounts between 5 and 25 pounds required. Work requires moderate attention to detail and deadlines between 15% and 45% of the time. Driving is required intermittently, with exposure to normal traffic hazards.
