A Financial Controllerposition is available within our Corporate Headquarters located inNorth Kansas City, MO.The main duty of the Financial Controller is to manage Garney's financial activities. This includes transactions and accounting related processes. The Financial Controller is responsible to for managing the financial details and oversee the financial services team, supporting them through their day-to-day tasks.

Support Functions:

  • Assist in budget preparation.
  • Provide training and support to operations employees.
  • Coordinate with management to monitor financial reporting packages, balance sheets, and "Work in Progress."
  • Work closely with operations leaders on monthly projections and results analysis.
  • Close accounting books, report on numbers, and monitor financial systems.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive budgets and forecasts.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide financial insights to management.
  • Manage cash flow, including forecasting needs, monitoring receipts and disbursements, and optimizing investment opportunities.
  • Develop accounting control parameters and recommend improvements.
  • Act as a liaison with external auditors during annual audits.
  • Evaluate financial performance and generate financial statements.
  • Propose several financial options to support business objectives.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risk.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of construction accounting principles and practices, including project costing and revenue recognition.
  • Supervise the accounting staff, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to accounting standards (GAAP).
  • Monitor report numbers and set up processes for data entry.
  • Generate accurate financial reports for management.
  • Maintain financial systems and data storage for reporting purposes.


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting- Required

  • 10 years of accounting experience in the construction industry- Preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant and/or CCIFP - Preferred

  • Willing to travel occasionally for trainings, orientations, or to outside offices

  • Strong technical abilities in programs utilized such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Accounting system, Prophix, SQL, etc.
