Overview

As an IT intern, your role will encompass various tasks to give you a comprehensive understanding of our information technology operations.
This is a paid internship.



Responsibilities

    Entry-Level Help Desk Technician: You will be one of a team that operate as the first point of contact for technical support. Your duties will include responding to user inquiries, troubleshooting software and hardware issues, and documenting resolutions.
  • Shadowing Network Administrators: To give you exposure to network management, you will shadow our team of network administrators. This will involve monitoring network performance, participating in network upgrades, and learning about our security protocols. Your involvement will help you gain insight into the daily operations and challenges of maintaining a robust network.
  • Shadowing Data & Applications Team: You will also have the opportunity to work closely with our Data and Applications team. This part of your internship will introduce you to software development, database management, and application troubleshooting. You will assist in testing new applications, documenting changes, and supporting the roll-out of software updates.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, including answering phone calls, emails, and other communications from those seeking technical assistance, to assist users in the community with technology needs.

  • Troubleshooting issues by helping end users and ITS staff members diagnose and resolve issues.

  • Documentation. Record appropriate activities in helpdesk software and act as Tier I support.

  • Learn and use appropriate technology software by familiarizing oneself with school's support software, and efficiently using these tools to resolve, manage and track requests.

  • Support team members by assisting other ITS staff members with tasks and participating in meetings and training sessions.

  • Continuous learning, staying updated on the school's technology and researching new and innovative ways to assist.

  • Learn and use network tools and software to assist ITS Staff with user management, network security and deployment of technology.

  • Learn and use database tools and software to assist ITS staff with data management and data security. This could include some SQL and use of some basic programming.

  • Partner with the ITS team on the implementation of internal and external technology. Support documentation and policies and procedures for all technologies that affect technology support services

  • Support the technology team with documentation of policies and procedures for all technologies that affect technology support services.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned, given the rapidly changing and mission critical nature of the department's responsibilities.



Qualifications

  • Should be actively enrolled in a college or university with a major or minor in a Systems Technology or an Engineering field. Grade level of Junior or Senior is preferred, but should have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of study.
  • Experience with Google and Google Suite.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Base knowledge of database concepts.
  • Basic skills with scripting and/or base programming languages. (e.g. Python, Java)
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware components and peripherals.
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems and some base troubleshooting steps.
  • Most work will be performed in a typical office or school environment with desk, computer and general office equipment. Some tasks may be performed in different areas of the school (e.g. network closet, server room, storage area)

  • Frequent use of hands for typing, using a mouse, and handling small components or tools. May need to perform precis and/or repetitive movements.

  • Occasionally lifting and carrying IT equipment, such as computers, monitors, and printers (typically weighing up to 50 pounds).

  • Occasional bending, kneeling or crawling to install or troubleshoot equipment under desks or in tight spaces.

  • Ability to distinguish colors for cable identification and troubleshooting.
