Position title: Ioannidis Lab Research Specialist (Junior Specialist and Assistant Specialist Ranks) Salary range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience (see section D. Qualifications of the CAPM 602.230 Specialist Series The posted). UCSC Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See the scale titled, Represented Specialist Series Fiscal Year. "Off-scale salaries", i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. A reasonable estimate for this position is $53,100 - $68,300. Percent time:

Initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding. The position will involve maintaining and updating existing code bases and acquiring and processing genomic datasets. The hiring unit, within the Biomolecular Engineering Department at UCSC focuses on research and education at the intersection of biology, computer science, and engineering, to drive advances in areas such as genomics, synthetic biology, bioinformatics, and biomolecular modeling. Under the direction of Assistant Professor Ioannids, the research specialist will contribute towards genomic data production and analysis, Drosophila maintenance, and Wolbachia and Drosophila candidate gene testing through confocal imaging and cytological analysis. An ideal candidate would have general knowledge in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, cell biology, developmental biology, and bioinformatics (e.g., bash, python, common bioinformatics software for short read alignment and analysis).
