Under the direction of the Executive Director of Special Education, the coordinator of summer and extended learning services & ose supports will manage the planning, developing, implementing and monitoring Baltimore City Public Schools' provision of services for students eligible for the Extended School Year (ESY) and Compensatory Services in accordance with federal, state, and local special education regulations.


Essential Functions



  • Manage and monitor the provision of services for students eligible for the Extended School Year (ESY) and compensatory services as identified in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Collaborates with district office stakeholders and school-based administrators to determine the overall direction and implementation of compensatory services and ESY.
  • Collaborates and monitor the identification and appropriate placement of ESY staff and students, logistics coordination, curriculum selection, materials, handbooks, and mailings.
  • Prepares project communications to ensure all stakeholders, including parents, receive clear and consistent information, re: ESY and compensatory services.
  • Collaborates with the Coordinator-Special Education Academic Supports to determine curriculum options and resources for ESY and compensatory services.
  • Develops and delivers professional development that provides school-based staff with the knowledge and skills needed to ensure students with disabilities received appropriate ESY and compensatory supports and services.
  • Analyze ESY and compensatory data to enhance supports and services to SWD.
  • Consults with IEP Teams and district staff to develop effective and timely ESY and/or compensatory communication to school-based staff and families of SWD.
  • Conducts ESY school visits and monitors support provide during ESY.
  • Prepares and submits appropriate written reports of monitoring and supportive activities conducted.
  • Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
  • Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and the professional standards.

  • Ability to interact with diverse constituencies and convey complicated information with tact and diplomacy.
  • Proficient skill in the use of technical computer applications, including electronic databases, case management systems, and Microsoft Office, including Excel and Power Point.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Skill in research, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, and organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.
