Texas Education THRIVE, a comprehensive educational initiative through the College of Education at UT Austin, provides engagement, support, professional development, and networking resources to school districts across Texas. Geared toward both early and mid-career teachers, THRIVE is committed to providing the necessary mentorship and professional learning opportunities that ensure successful and productive careers in education for the betterment of all Texas children.

Purpose

The THRIVE Mentor Coach will facilitate the development of site-based mentors and the implementation of the THRIVE Framework. The three primary domains in the THRIVE Framework include: instructional practices, coaching strategies, and navigating systems. These critical areas of expertise build strong systems of support around early career teachers. THRIVE Mentor Coaches help mentors and early career teachers to build the transformational mindsets and skills needed to center empathy, reflection, and asset-based approaches to teaching and learning.

THRIVE Mentor Coaches will promote continuous learning, provide guidance and structure where needed, collaborate on common issues of concern to build the capacity of mentor teachers so that all early-career teachers have access to a high-quality support system during their first years of teaching.

This position is funded through May 2026 but is renewed on an annual basis with continuation beyond May 2026 contingent upon availability of funding

Responsibilities

Facilitate a collaborative learning community of school-based mentors

  • Support collaborative learning community groups weekly

  • Access and leverage support for just-in-time mentor specific topics

  • Plan and facilitate monthly Community of Practice with mentors to address current trends

  • Engage mentors in bite-sized professional learning and apply THRIVE module content

  • Actively participate in monthly meetings supporting school-based Instructional Coaches and DVISD Coordinators

  • Collaborate and serve as a liaison with school leaders and administrators

  • Collaborate with mentors to collect and approve artifacts of growth throughout the THRIVE program

Provide on-going, personalized job-embedded coaching

  • Consistently provide targeted coaching for mentors including quarterly coaching calls to explicitly engage and leverage the THRIVE curriculum

  • Provide just-in-time, personalized support for mentors including observation, and feedback cycles to address individual needs

  • Collaborate with Instructional Coach, New Teacher Coordinator and administrators to provide effective mentee support

  • Participate, facilitate and support campus learning walks for mentors and mentees

  • Assist mentors with resources to support their knowledge and implementation of mentor instructional practices, navigating systems and coaching strategies

  • Make discoveries regarding what resources and strategies that might best support the individual professional growth of mentors and early-career teachers

  • Make connections with the THRIVE modules and district initiatives to support the individual professional growth of teacher mentors and early-career teachers

  • Collaborate with and support early-career teachers as needed

Training and THRIVE team collaboration

  • Study and implement THRIVE curriculum and mentor modules

  • Actively participate in Mentor Academy and engage with assigned cohort of mentors

  • Present THRIVE modules to targeted audience throughout the school year in virtual and in-person settings

  • Consistently engage in a feedback loop with THRIVE team about the THRIVE curriculum and its implementation

  • Complete coaching documentation and programmatic check-ins weekly

  • Report hours monthly to the appropriate channel as determined by program staff

  • Document mentoring sessions after each visit and provide updates to IC and leadership as needed

Required Qualifications
  • Valid Texas teacher certification in related field

  • Experience as a successful elementary, middle or high school classroom teacher.

  • Experience as a campus mentor; demonstrate active listening, reflective questioning, and actionable feedback

  • Experience leading learning for adults

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or higher degree in a related field.

  • Experience as an instructional coach and/or campus administrator.

  • Knowledge of Del Valle ISD systems and frameworks.

  • Experience supporting bilingual, dual language and/or special education teachers and/or teaching practices.

  • Understanding of best practices supporting schools in improvement.

Salary Range

$60/hour

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
