Department Summary:

The UC Master Gardener Program is an educational program under UC ANR designed to teach and effectively extend information that addresses gardening needs in communities throughout the state of California and addresses the strategic initiatives of UC ANR. Since 1981, the UC Master Gardener Program has been extending UC Research-based information about home horticulture and pest management to the public. UC trained and certified Master Gardener volunteers offer services and outreach to the general public in 53 California counties through local UCCE offices. Last year 6,216 active UC Master Gardener volunteers donated 395,239 hours, and 7.7+ million hours have been donated since the program's inception.

Position Summary:

This position works with a team of UC Master Gardener Coordinators in a multi-county region and across the state to provide professional development and educational leadership to the full range of UC Master Gardener Program volunteer and community engagement activities. Regional Operations Coordinators lead programmatic efforts that result in high quality, culturally responsive learning environments where staff coordinators and volunteers thrive. They will foster programmatic consistency by supporting UC Master Gardener Coordinators in the application of statewide expectations related to position responsibilities, support of the program's mission, and pursuit of volunteer and community engagement best practices. The Regional Operations Coordinators will coordinate professional development opportunities, facilitate learning, support local coordinator recruitments, ensure local integration of programmatic best practices/requirements, ensure participation in evaluation and contact reporting efforts, support local adoption of DEIJ best practices, support conflict resolution, identify and foster mentor-mentee relationships, identify and celebrate exceptional programming, contribute to impact stories, support annual reappointment processes, and bring together regional groups of UC Master Gardener Coordinators and Volunteer Leaders to build relationships, and promote sharing of resources and impactful projects.

This position will work as part of a team with a Regional Operations Coordinator counterpart and the Assistant Director for Volunteer and Community Engagement to foster the necessary conditions for high quality, culturally responsive volunteer learning environments and public engagement activities. They will ensure that program staff and volunteers are equipped to effectively engage and support new and historically underserved clientele.

This position will report to the Assistant Director for Volunteer and Community Engagement who reports to the Director of the UC Master Gardener Program.

This position will be assigned Region 2 locations which currently includes Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo / San Francisco, Santa Clara, Fresno, Imperial, Inyo / Mono, Los Angeles, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz / Monterey, Tulare / Kings, and Ventura counties.

This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.

Home Office Location - We aim to locate the position within a Region 2 UC ANR site in proximity to the final candidate's home, subject to space availability and support of the County Director.

The home department for this position is the Statewide Master Gardener Program. While this position is based at the UC ANR office location agreed upon, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements, for applicants living in the State of California, at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.

Pay Scale: $53,800/year to $95,900/year (salary pay scales differ by county/location)

This position will promote, in all ways consistent with the other responsibilities of the position, accomplishment of the Affirmative Action goals established by the Division.

This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities. UC ANR does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.
