What You'll Do

Reporting to the Operations Manager the Purchasing Manager will be a key member of the operations team leading and supporting the site's production schedules and customer requirements. The position oversees all procurement, including qualification and management of subcontractors, shipping, receiving, and inventory control functions, and leads and directs the work of buyers, shipping and receiving personnel, and transportation.

The Purchasing Manager collaborates with other site functional leaders to ensure effective communication and teamwork that drives the completion of site objectives.



  • Manage activities related to strategic or tactical purchasing, material requirements planning, controlling inventory, warehousing, shipping, and receiving.
  • Define performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain factors such as product quality, customer service, communication, and on-time delivery.
  • Define, identify, and manage supplier risk to ensure continuous supply of materials and critical supplies.
  • Implement new or improved supply chain processes to increase performance while reducing cost.
  • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.
  • Identify new sources of materials and services and ensure that they are qualified to perform.
  • Prepare and approve purchase orders, solicit bid proposals, and review requisitions for goods and services. Maintain records in the ERP system of items purchased costs and deliveries.
  • Review unacceptable goods/services with outside vendors. Monitor shipments to ensure that goods arrive on time and resolve problems related to undelivered goods or other shipment errors.
  • Manage, coordinate, and control materials planning/scheduling using best practices, and vendor-managed inventory with extreme discipline.
  • Standardize and document all material management procedures to eliminate reliance on "tribal knowledge".
  • Lead efforts to establish proper stocking plans per LTA and optimization of the pipeline, including visual min/max control, as well as effective replenishment of high runners.
  • Drive efforts to continuously review and improve inventory accuracy and ensure inventory objectives (about customer forecasts) are met. Develop and implement plans to drive inventory turns and days on hand to meet/exceed Standex budgeted targets. Effectively manage excess and obsolete inventories.
  • Develop, plan, and implement prompt and economical ordering of materials and finished goods, both internal and external.
  • Work with operations and other business functions to revise production schedules when required due to material shortages, backlogs, or other interruptions, etc.
  • Assure suppliers meet all supplier quality management system requirements, require +95% OTD.
  • Work with Quality to monitor non-conformances and routine supplier audits.
  • Engage with the manufacturing, operations, and quality managers to review and monitor supply chain demands for successful new product development.
  • Recommend budgets to management, including staff use, technology, facility, and equipment requirements or improvements.
  • Foster an environment of cooperation and teamwork with all functional disciplines/departments (operations, business development, advanced engineering, finance, quality and engineering)



What You'll Bring



  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive supply chain/materials management experience, preferably in commercial aerospace or energy markets.
  • Experience of ERP systems (preferably Epicor) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong financial acumen, including capital management and make/buy decision processes.
  • Strong business acumen and the pragmatic ability to recognize the effect of decisions on the customer and business.
  • Excellent negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing while mentoring, and coaching others in rapid problem-solving.
  • Leadership experience in managing and developing a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills combined with the ability to communicate to all levels of the organization and manage to appropriate outcomes.


What We Value



  • Certification in CPIM and/or CSCP preferred.
