The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic good will for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. The MA provides non-licensed medical support to medical care providers as a medical assistant for the department/clinical team for which it is assigned. The MA is supervised by a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) when administering medications and performing or assisting with procedures. The MA works under the direction of a clinic manager (practice manager and/or nurse manager) for administrative purposes, including customer service, professional behavior & development, assignment & scheduling of work, and performance of job functions not requiring supervision by an LIP.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least six (6) months of recent medical assisting experience in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Must have Certificate of Completion from a medical assistant training program.
  • Current CPR (AHA) certification.
  • To administer injections, must have written evidence of validation for training and competency in medication administration by injection and skin testing. Must pass UCDHS Pharmacology verification exams if needed in job.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and/or Pediatrics experience.
  • EMR experience.
  • Front office experience.

The Midtown Primary Care clinic consists of an exemplary team of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Pediatric physicians. The Midtown Clinic consists of an exemplary team of physicians, clinical and clerical support staff who provide patient centric care.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to administer injections, must have written evidence of validation for training and competency in medication administration by injection and skin testing.
  • Must be willing to work variable days (including weekends), hours and locations as required to meet business needs of the practice.
  • Must pass UCDHS Pharmacology verification exams if needed in job.

Special Requirements

  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
