Project/Unit Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) Information Systems Department (ISD) is seeking a Solutions Architect to join our Enterprise Applications Division. This team member will solve complex problems by working with key stakeholders across our organization to research, architect and implement appropriate DevSecOps principles, processes, and technology. This role will serve as a main point-of-contact for adoption to an enterprise-wide Artifactory instance, in addition to providing secondary administration of existing Linux-based applications (both containerized and non-containerized).

The ISD team supports GTRI's 2900 employees across the United States in an enterprise IT role, providing centralized IT infrastructure, networking, services and applications to all of GTRI. Specifically, the Enterprise Applications Divisions focuses on implementing and managing a variety of both on-prem and cloud applications (including IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS), and applications provided by a cross-functional team that are vital to business operations for GTRI. This position will report to the Manager of the Enterprise Applications Division as well as interface cross-functionally with other members of ISD, lab-level IT teams, researchers and external sponsors or customers.


Job Purpose

The Solution Architect defines, conceptualizes, describes, and manages an engineering solution specific to the enterprise system. Responsible for understanding the architecture, design, and development of software built for sponsors and running on secure cloud computing networks, specifically focusing on fully automated deployments. Additional responsibilities include understanding how integration with third-party software vendors will impact the system and providing guidance on impact to the enterprise. This position will interact with government sponsors and government technical experts to translate business requirements into technical requirements and provide guidance to technical teams for execution of requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Understand the architecture, design, development, and deployment of the system in relation to the enterprise.
  • Understands how integration with third-party software vendors will impact the system and providing guidance on impact to the enterprise.
  • Applies computer science concept and principles to solve problems at the enterprise level.
  • Understands the System Architecture design (compute, hardware/virtual, OS, storage, networking, security) and how new requirements may impact the design.
  • Is a prime contributor to the requirements, design, or development of Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CICD) processes using DevOps and DevSecOps principles.
  • Understands and employs best practices such as Architecture as Code.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in application definition activities including requirement/feature analysis and project scope analysis.
  • Design software and systems securely to meet accreditation requirements from assessors.


Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position to be considered.
  • Experience with binary artifact systems (e.g. jFrog Artifactory, Sonatype Nexus).
  • Experience with modern DevOps, DevSecOps, & Agile software development and production practices, and the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) tools.
  • Experience with Linux, virtualization, container, and cloud technologies (e.g. RHEL, Docker, Vagrant, Kubernetes, Rancher, OpenShift, Amazon Web Services, Azure).
  • Strategic thinker with strong interpersonal, team, presentation, communication skills.
  • Task and team leadership experience.
  • Ability to build an environment for transparent and open discussion of all issues. You involve the right people, from your team and others, to resolve critical issues.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Experience with implementing cybersecurity and information security policies.
  • Foundational understanding of systems administration and networking is considered a plus.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g. GitLab, GitHub, BitBucket, Bamboo, Azure DevOps) is considered a plus.

  • 3 years of related experience with a Masters' degree in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field of study.
  • 0 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field of study.


U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.


Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
