Position Summary |
The University of St. Francis, a Catholic, Franciscan institution located southwest of Chicago in Joliet, Illinois, invites applications for a half-time instructor position in Substance Abuse Counseling to begin in August 2024. Health benefits are available with this position.
This is a renewable, non-tenure-track position for nine months each year, from August through May; responsible for field practicum and teaching a maximum of 15 credit hours per academic year.
Students in this program are undergraduates majoring in substance abuse counseling.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities |
Position responsibilities and duties may include, but may not be limited to, the following:
* Arranging for and supervising field placements for students majoring in Substance Abuse Counseling (i.e., teaching one Field Practicum Supervision Seminar per semester, which requires developing a field practicum manual and keeping it updated, and building and maintaining a stable network of practicum sites);
* Coordinating the Substance Abuse Counseling Program - duties include locating and managing relationships with field placements/practicum sites, assisting students in obtaining placements, evaluating student performance on practicum, and teaching the required Field Practicum Supervision Seminars, as well as other classes as needed; and
* Such courses may include but not be limited to teaching the Capstone Experience in Case Conceptualization, Ethics in Addiction Counseling, Advanced Techniques in Substance Abuse Treatment and/or Psychopharmacology for Addiction Counselors.

Minimum Requirements |
Master's degree in Psychology or Social Work (M.S.W.) and
CADC certification in Illinois;
* Ability to teach at the undergraduate level and commitment to undergraduate education;
* Willingness to uphold and fulfill the mission, vision, values, and traditions of the University of St. Francis; and
* Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.

Preferred Requirements |
*Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology; Ph.D. in Social Work or related field;
* Appropriate licensure (L.C.P.C. or L.C.S.W.) in Illinois;
* Field/practice experience working with clients in the field of substance abuse counseling and
treatment; and/or
* Evidence of effective teaching at university level. |
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule |
Courses are three credit hours each, to be held either once per week for 2 hours and 45 minutes in the afternoon or evening; or twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays (75 minutes per class meeting); or three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (50 minutes per class meeting).
All courses are face-to-face with online support (using Canvas as our learning management system). |
Physical Requirements of Position |
Work is performed in classroom and office settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. |
