Job Description

The Electronic Warfare Modeling and Analysis Division (EWMAD) in the Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) at GTRI seeks student research assistants to conduct automated machine learning research during Summer 2024. Responsibilities include curating data, running simulations and optimizations, developing algorithms, and applying machine learning research to electronic warfare challenges.


Required Minimum Qualifications

Student Assistant/Research Assistant



  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters
  • 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Experience in 1 or more programming languages, Python preferred
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts or genetic programming projects
  • Task / team leadership experience
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Experience with machine learning or genetic programming projects


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas in non-technical language
  • Familiarity with Linux and configuration management tools
  • Experience with Evolutionary Multi-objective Algorithm Design Engine (EMADE) toolset
  • Currently or previously enrolled in Georgia Tech's VIP Automated Algorithm Design (AAD) course (i.e. VIP 2601, VIP 3601, VIP 3602, VIP 4601, VIP 4602, VIP 6603)

10-20 hours per week

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.


Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
