Job Details:

Purpose:

Provide care and general welfare throughout the cycle of care for patients served in the Clinical Care Units at UT Health Austin to include answering questions, providing support and education as needed, as well as acting as a liaison between patients, families and the providers as required.

Responsibilities
  • Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with stated medical plan of care utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement, and record patients' response in the medical record. Reviews referral documents and medical records to determine patient's clinical indications are appropriate for scheduling with the clinical team. Schedules patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via on-line computer system or telephone, and reinforces provider instructions in person and through telephone contact.

  • Provides patient education and documents patient's response in medical record. Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment. Triages patient phone inquiries according to provider and/or departmental protocols and documents such actions in patients' medical records.

  • Provides working supervision and delegates tasks to licensed vocational nurses, non-licensed medical staff, or office support personnel. Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation. Participates in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise.

  • Prepares equipment and assists providers during physical exams and medical procedures. Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by provider. Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of equipment. Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area. Attends and participates in meetings related to clinical activities.

  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.

Required Qualifications

Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing. Three years of general nursing experience with some administrative experience. Current CPR certification. At least three (3) years of experience in an outpatient clinical practice. Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients. Must be comfortable and flexible with changing priorities and self-directed problem solving.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN). Five (5) or more years of experience in an outpatient clinical practice. Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (or will be provided with). Experience working in psychiatry. Experience with research activities. Working knowledge of and/or experience with Value-Based Healthcare Delivery models. Experience delivering care through a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency using Athena electronic medical records. Experience tracking, measuring, and using patient reported outcomes in developing treatment plans for patients. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Salary Range

$82,000+ depending on qualifications
