SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE:

We have an exceptional opportunity for a Part-time Instructional Math Coach to provide leader, teacher, district and school instructional support through coaching and professional development focused on advancing Powerful Mathematics Practices.

What does an Instructional Coach do?

  • Designs, plans, facilitates, and evaluates professional development with teachers, students and administrators.
  • Coaches teachers and teacher leaders for continuous school improvement.
  • Prepares and presents professional development material to principals, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Analyzes district and site teacher effectiveness data to determine strategic recommendations and/or district professional development.
  • Observes and provides teacher feedback on classroom instruction; communicates with school and district leaders regarding teacher progress towards instructional shifts.
  • Collects evidence of instructional strategies; uses evidence to help teachers, coaches, and administrators adjust instruction.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
  • Represents the organization with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

 

What does it take to be a Part-time Instructional Coach?

Master's degree in Education, Instructional Leadership, or a related field; AND two (2) years of classroom experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Current trends in education and instructional design.
  • Principles and practices of instruction, effective lesson planning and lesson design.
  • Principles and practices of project management.
  • Principles, practices, materials and techniques of public information and education.
  • Computer applications/software related to the work.
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
  • Principles and techniques of making effective oral presentations.
  • Managing multiple projects and priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Managing teachers and leaders in the execution of a school improvement process.
  • Using computer-aided desktop publishing hardware and software.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Analyzing multiple sources of data to make decisions on improving instruction.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.

  • Ability to create and deliver engaging and relevant professional development focused on Powerful Mathematics Practices to large and small groups virtually and in person.

  • Candidates with mathematics coaching experience.

  • Candidates must have or previously had a teaching certificate.

  • Candidates should be located near a major airport.

  • Candidates residing in WV, TN, NC, GA and AL – preferred

  • Ability to travel overnight (work is subject to extended travel)

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and carry up to 20 pounds.

  • Successful completion of a background investigation and drug test.

  • Valid Driver’s License

Compensation

To support SREB’s top priorities, compensation decisions balance internal equity and external competitiveness within the boundaries of financial feasibility. Salaries for new employees will be established at levels that recognize the individual’s skills and experience while considering the salary levels of current employees within the same job title and those performing comparable work within the parameters of discipline, function, and individual effectiveness.

  • Pay rate: $41.34 per hour
