Metal Manager

Arconic is seeking a Metal Manager to join our Aluminum Extrusion (AEX) business unit in Lafayette, IN.

Profile: The primary purpose of this role is to manage and order prime and alloying elements for the cast houses and billet for the extrusion units. They will also manage inventory levels and scrap returns.

Essential Functions: The Metal Manager within Lafayette operations requires technical and interpersonal skills essential to teamwork. Major duties include but are not limited to:



  • Forecasting demand and securing on-time supply for raw material based on the production schedules.
  • Manage inventory levels and coordinate the recycling loop for scrap.


General duties for the Metal Manager include but are not limited to:



  • Provide short- and long-term metal plans and forecasts for routine mass flow balance as well as special projects and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate supplier qualifications together with Quality and Application engineering resources
  • Interact and communicate transparently with various department supervisors and employees, suppliers, Arconic corporate representatives, Arconic Materials Management, outside processors, customer service, sales & marketing, and encourage teamwork.
  • Advise Contract Administration of purchase/sale quantities to be hedged for risk management.
  • Organize and foster a lean storage system for billets and scrap.
  • Take a leading role in developing and deploying systemic changes in the Supply Chain order fulfillment function based upon lean manufacturing (ABS) principles that will lead to enhanced customer satisfaction while eliminating production and inventory waste.
  • Develop appropriate internal tests within existing and future target conditions to highlight delivery and inventory problems. Define the help chain that will drive to problem resolution and elimination.



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of supply chain experience
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. *730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Experience with SAP/Oracle
  • Experience directing performance management for others
  • Understanding of Arconic's extrusion operations and ability to interact with all levels of employees at Lafayette facility
  • Strong analytic skills
  • Advanced Microsoft office understanding, specifically in Excel
  • Experience presenting to all levels of plant management and external customers
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain, raw material/production planning and Sales & Operations Planning principles to optimize customer delivery, inventory and cost.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills to successfully meet or exceed business targets.
  • Change management, analytical and problem-solving skill set.
  • Successfully works across diverse functions and levels of the company.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
  • SQL Experience
