Bilingual Outreach Navigator (Spanish/English)

Fenway Health is seeking a Bilingual Outreach Navigator to join our passionate team of HIV prevention specialists. As a Bilingual Outreach Navigator, you will develop and implement targeted outreach and risk reduction services to our client populations at highest risk for HIV/Hep C/STIs. Through in-person and virtual community outreach, you will utilize your bilingual and bicultural capability to directly support your community in accessing culturally competent prevention and treatment services. In this role, you will also use your lived and/or professional experience with BIPOC, Latinx MSM, and transgender communities to provide direct sexual health education, testing, and other harm reduction services to clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide Direct Services

• Work closely with colleagues to design and implement community outreach initiatives and screening events to reach members of at-risk communities, especially young Latinx men who have sex with men.
• Assist in Developing and implementing protocols for in person and virtual outreach
• Spend a substantial amount of time in the field in order to make contact with the target population, identify their needs and then work with the rest of the team to address those needs.
• Provide risk assessment and HIV/STI/substance use prevention education in community settings, by phone and/or online.
• Support the Sexual Health clinic by conducting routine testing appointments for 1-2 sessions a week, and complete administrative follow up tasks associated with routine patient visits
• Perform health navigation on outreach, which may include making supported referrals to the full spectrum of client needs, such as primary care, PrEP, and PEP, and accompanying clients to services when appropriate.
• Follow up with community members who are navigated to services, making periodic checks for additional needs or barriers.
• Screen and triage callers and walk-in clients by assessing risk for HIV, STI and viral hepatitis exposure.
• Provide pre- and post-test counseling to those seeking HIV testing, STI screening, viral hepatitis treatment and PrEP/nPEP
• Conduct HIV/Hep C/STI testing, using rapid tests, phlebotomy, and/or self-swabs as appropriate.

Plan and Implement Outreach Initiatives

• Work with team members to propose, refine and evaluate plans and strategies for outreach, including venue-based, online and advertising approaches.
• Gather feedback from key opinion leaders from the target population to inform the content and methods for outreach efforts.
• Assist in designing and/or editing Spanish-language program materials.
• Make connections and build referral relationships with Fenway Health providers and community organizations that serve young Latino MSM.
• Implement improvements to client flow and access to care in the non-clinical setting, as determined by the Manager of Sexual Health
• Assist the Manager of Sexual Health Sexual Health Program Coordinator in all aspects of outreach coordination

Requirements

• Fluency in both English and Spanish
• Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in the area of community outreach. Note: a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus one-year relevant experience may substance for the work experience requirement
• Lived or professional experience at the intersection of the LGBTQIA+ experience and BIPOC, Latinx MSM, and transgender communities.
• The capacity to leverage a foundational understanding of sex positivity in order to close the gap between the services we provide and the communities we provide them for
• Demonstrates enough bi-literacy to comfortably discuss social, and sexual health topics with monolingual Spanish speakers.
• Substantial knowledge of and experience with young adult Latinx communities and networks in greater Boston, especially those men who identify as gay, bisexual or who have had sex with other men.
• Experience in phlebotomy, or willingness to learn
• Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with colleagues, patients, clients and vendors across the spectrum of diversity, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, national origin and immigrant status, religious or spiritual identity, disability (physical, mental, emotional and developmental), veteran status, and/or limited English proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience being a project manager, or meaningfully contributing to the planning on implementation of different projects/initiatives
• The ability to leverage an existing social media presence to help promote our services
• Being well-connected in the LGBTQIA+ Boston Community
• Experience working effectively with diverse groups of individuals and communities at risk for HIV -- especially men who have sex with men, transgender people, injection drug users, people of color, those who are foreign-born and may be undocumented, and those who are homeless or unstably housed.
• Experience providing HIV and/or harm reduction education

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations:
• Travel to community events and venues such health fairs, neighborhoods, bars and nightclubs to perform outreach activities, including on late evenings and weekends
• Sit at a computer station and use a keyboard for extended periods of time.
• Ability to keyboard for extended periods of time
• Requires handling average-weight objects up to 15-20 pounds, and occasionally assisting patients
• May work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and require OSHA training
• Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment
• Ability to travel to community events and venues such as bars and nightclubs to perform outreach activities.

$24.92-28.77 per hour ($48,600-56,100 per year)
