Job Summary

The Director of Outreach, Recruitment, Retention & Enrollment will be responsible for assuring the School develops and implements intentional and strategic outreach activities designed to reach diverse constituents and communities. The incumbent will advise and support the development of retention strategies, and lead in the design and implementation of an enrollment management approach, considerate of the School's resources, financial requirements, and the current and future needs of the profession. The Director will serve in a highly self-directed role within the Office of Student Services, reporting to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

Major functional areas of responsibility include:

1) Developing and overseeing an enrollment management plan

2) Establishing and maintaining a comprehensive outreach program, working with other campus outreach coordinators on campus-wide initiatives, and developing intentional and strategic pathways for the recruitment of a diverse community of nurses ready to engage in graduate study. This includes conceiving, developing and implementing programs on the UCSF campus to introduce various constituencies to the students, faculty and staff in the School and campus-wide. The incumbent will establish a multi-pronged and multi-modality approach and utilize diverse recruitment strategies, which includes developing and maintaining partnerships and relationships with international, out-of-state, statewide, and local colleges, universities, professional societies, and other health related entities for the purpose of enhancing the applicant pool and admissions of diverse individuals to our MS, PhD, Post-MS, DNP, Special Studies, and Post-Doc programs of study.

3) Co-creating the development, implementation, and management of a program that promotes student retention and success.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college; and 4 years of experience in an academic institution or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience establishing administrative programs, units, and/or programs in an academic setting or business setting
  • Demonstrated experience with financial planning for existing and new programs; estimate and analyze costs and revenues; develop cost-effective budgets
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing marketing or promotional materials, such as ads, flyers, posters, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the professional use of social media and other electronic media/devices
  • demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, etc.), Adobe Products, database software
  • Demonstrated public speaking and presentations to individuals and groups up to 200
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen carefully, think strategically, ask critical questions diplomatically, and use discretion, sensitivity, and tact when communicating with various constituencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people representing diverse cultures, ethnic groups, lifestyles, socio-economic strata and backgrounds
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities, with attention to detail
  • Familiarity with health care, the nursing profession and current trends
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, writing, and editing skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Highly personable and able to provide outstanding customer service under pressure
  • Knowledge of UC policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's Degree in health field, communications, marketing, or related discipline
