The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Examines bankruptcy documents and researches bankruptcy case(s) using a variety of automated accounting tools to determine or modify case and determine if dischargeable, recognizing further research issues that affect the bankruptcy.
  • Provides prompt, professional, and courteous service and assistance to all internal and external customers.
  • Prevents or immediately takes action(s) to minimize or prevent the Service's willful violations of the bankruptcy automatic-stay provision or discharge order.
  • Provides information and confers with taxpayers and their representatives and other government officials to resolve routine to complex issues and determines a course of action designed to protect the government's interest.
  • Posts payments to the Automated Insolvency System (AIS) and corrects error conditions.

  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).

Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-05 LEVEL: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information, and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information, and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness.

OR

EDUCATION: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.

OR

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06 LEVEL: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience include interactions with the public analyzing tax or accounting issues. Experience must have included analyzing and resolving problems, adjusting accounts, and providing information on financial issues.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07 LEVEL: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience may have been gained in positions in a bookkeeping or accounting position, or interactions with the public analyzing tax or accounting problems and resolving high-conflict differences through use of established guidelines, or in an interaction with customers in person, in writing or by telephone in a variety of situations that require solicitation of information to identify concerns and offer solutions. Your position may have included interpreting account information to address a variety of issues, guidelines, and past transactions.
