Overview

The Business Process Planning ("BPP") Group is currently seeking an individual with a high-energy level and a passion. The group's purpose is to accelerate our organization's rate of change by working with the stakeholders to identify current practices and process, explore opportunities for improvement. The primary responsibility of the Project Manager is to manage implementaion of Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) procedure, support Middle Back Office teams by managing projects and coordination between Front Office and Middle Back Offices. This role will support both the SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. ("CM") and SMBC Nikko Securities America, Inc. ("Nikko") entities and will have a reporting line into the Head of BPP.

The objective of the Project Manager is to manage implementaion of Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) procedure by preparing monthly ExCo and quarterly Board of Directors project overview pack, Periodic review of project status, Facilitate monthly management meeting for project status review. The individual will be expected to work collaboratively across numerous areas/departments in an effort to help effective project management. Key stakeholder engagement will be expected with the Front Office, Planning, Operations, Finance and Technology teams

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $63,000 and $80,000. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.



Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The job responsibilities are described herein, but are not limited to:

    Prepare monthly ExCo and quarterly Board of Directors project overview pack by coordinating with project managers.
  • Periodic review of project status including - Close monitoring of projects nearing completion date, Appropriate assignment of RAG status to individual milestone and overall project, Review Risks, and Issues.
  • Facilitate monthly management meeting for project status review.
  • Facilitate ExCo project registration and closure. Maintain project list.
  • Maintain templates for effective project management as per Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) procedure.
  • Provide project governance as listed in PLM procedure and guide project managers throughout project lifecycle from Initiation to Closure.
  • Work as member of PMO team for middle back initiatives including vendor management and coordinating with IT and Business.
  • Support Project Management activities as identified by management from time to time such as monitoring Material Initiative Dashboard (MID) for remediation of High-Risk audit issues.
  • Support middle back activities as identified by management from time to time such as coordinate Billing and Delivery (B&D) between Front Office and Middle Back for Fixed Income Primary Issues.
  • Provide vendor management support by working on SOWs, onboarding consultants, and other tasks.

CRITICAL JOB KNOWLEDGE AND CORE COMPETENCIES/SKILLS

  • 2 or more years of project management experience.
  • Ability to manage projects with multiple stakeholders having conflicting priorities. Effectively collaborates with others to achieve organizational goals. Ability to effectively communicate (oral and written) and partner with key stakeholders to help advance project agenda (Stakeholder management experience).
  • Pro-actively identify and raise risks, issues. Detail-Oriented but does not lose sight of the big picture.
  • Advanced planning and organizing skills to deliver workload in timely manner.
  • Self-starter, Self-motivated, takes ownership, takes consultative approach in ambiguous business environment.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is not required but preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite - Excel, PowerPoint, Word, VISIO, SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of Jira, Project Management tool is not required, but preferred.
  • Work closely with other members of the team.


Qualifications

  • Work Experience - 2-5 years of specialized experience in Financial Services
  • Education - Required: BA/BS, Preferred: BA/BS (or equivalent experience). Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • Software Systems / Programming Languages - Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, VISIO, SharePoint

  • Travel - Percentage of travel required: 0 - 10 %
