Reporting to the Medical Director, the Float NP/PA provides clinical care to Fenway patients in one of the Medical Department's seven clinic sites in Boston based on coverage needs. Our sites are: 1340 Boylston Street (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th floors) and 142 Berkeley Street (Internal Medicine Wing, Family Medicine Wing).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
A. Clinical: the NP/PA Float will fill in for providers throughout our three clinic sites to assist during planned or unplanned provider absences or care supply/demand changes. Assignments can vary from days to months, depending on the need.
- Provides direct medical services to Fenway patients
- Takes appropriate medical history
- Conducts physical exam
- Orders and interprets appropriate tests
- Formulates differential diagnosis and treatment plans according to accepted standards
- Prescribes medication
- Refers to medical and/or surgical specialists for consultation as appropriate and follows up on results
- Provides age-specific care per Fenway Health policy
2. Provides psychosocial screening and evaluation to Fenway patients
- Provides preventative health care advice, assesses the psychosocial impact of illness, and treats or appropriately refers the patient for evaluation and treatment
- Assesses the social status of the patient and refers for appropriate intervention as necessary
- Screens for substance abuse, tobacco use, domestic violence, seat belt use, immunization status, nutrition and exercise as necessary and initiates appropriate interventions
3. Participates in health center quality improvement efforts
- Complies with Fenway Health Infection Control plan and ensures compliance by support staff
- Participates in peer review and quality improvement processes
4. Provides appropriate and timely documentation of clinical work
- Maintains patient records in a timely manner in the electronic medical record
- Will have 1 hour of administrative time for every 4 hours of clinical work
- Completes forms and reports for insurance companies and other agencies, as needed
5. Provides and maintains credentials to practice medicine
- Maintains full medical licensure in MA
- Maintains controlled substance licensure in MA and federal DEA license
- Maintains board eligibility or board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Medicine/Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine
- Maintains credentials with BIDCO
6. Continues professional development activities
- Completes minimum CME requirements
- Participates in educational conferences with other practitioners
- Provides supervision to mid-level practitioners and trainees, helps set up diagnosis and treatment plans, and helps provide back up to them
7. Meets agency participatory expectations
- Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures
- Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
- Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality
- Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
- Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
- Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
- Serves on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested
- NP or PA degree
- Current Massachusetts license
- Board eligibility or certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Medicine/Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine
