Research Writing Editor - Hybrid/Remote - 120263

This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Moores Cancer Center and remote.

DESCRIPTION

Radiation Oncology currently is a large contributor to the organizational bottom line, being a premier provider of cancer treatment. This Department is distinct from other clinical departments in that all aspects of treatment are technology-based. Technology advancements will continue to create potential business and revenue growth opportunities for both the Department and Medical Center, in both research and the clinical arena. This also presents a significant amount of of opportunity in the community.

Under the general supervision of the Director, serves as a Research Writing Editor. The Research Writing Editor is responsible for researching, developing, and writing: grant proposals, scientific papers, review articles, and manuscripts, while planning strategies under which the research objectives will be attained with minimal supervision. Conduct needs assessments, oversee data collection, input, analyze, and evaluate research program activities for proposal and paper submissions. Organize and interpret complex scientific data and writing with clear communication.

Writes or edits a variety of comprehensive scientific material for methodology, logic, stylistic consistency, organization, rational development of content, and emphasis. Researches, selects sources and references to ensure accuracy of written pieces. Recommends content and layout, edits, and coordinates production and submission of grants and papers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation.

  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines.

  • Thorough skills to write clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and / or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the location's message.

  • Thorough knowledge of the location, including its mission, goals, achievements, infrastructure, programs, and policies.

  • Thorough knowledge of issues in higher education, a specialized academic discipline or field and / or health sciences.

  • Knowledge of computer applications for publishing, image handling, and / or web production.

  • Thorough research and fact verification skills.

  • Thorough interpersonal communications skills, including active listening and effective collaboration skills.

  • Thorough analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Thorough attention to detail, project management and organizational skills.

  • Skill to maintain confidentiality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
