The Craik lab (https://pharm.ucsf.edu/craik) does chemical biology research with the intention of finding potent and specific enzyme inhibitors by studying the substrate specificity and structure of the enzymes. The enzymes are also used in high throughput screens to identify small molecule substrates and inhibitors whose binding modes are studied using biophysical methods. In addition, the lab identifies recombinant antibodies that bind to conformational states of enzyme, membrane proteins, protein complexes and other challenging targets. This involves phage display, cloning, purification, and analysis of protein homologues found in various organisms. The enzymes are also used in high throughput screens to identify small molecule substrates and inhibitors whose binding modes are studied using spectroscopy. This position provides support to the research by assisting and carrying our research projects involving phage display, protein expression & purification and subsequent biochemical analysis. The Specialist will also provide support for lab maintenance and organization.
