Job Summary

Staff Research Associate II: focusing on genome editing, molecular biology, biochemistry. The ideal candidate will have direct experience using CRISPR systems in cell lines; a proven record in genome editing. Primary duties will include design of custom gene for engineering mammalian cells, engineering mammalian cells using transfection, viral transduction, genome editing, and execution of experiments requiring cell culture with various readouts such as plate-based fluorescence assays and microscopy. Other duties include working with mice, dissecting and collecting tissue, performing in vivo experiments as needed.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Research Resource Program (RRP) provides strategic planning and implementation of programs to support core facilities and other research resources at UCSF. RRP also provides administrative, operational and financial management tools and support to core facilities.

Required Qualifications


  • BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Demonstrated experience in genome editing and maintaining mammalian cell cultures (transfections, transductions)
  • Demonstrated experience in basic molecular biology techniques
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
  • Demonstrated reliability and integrity

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge and Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 techniques
  • Experience genome-editing mammalian cell lines: molecular genetic cloning techniques including vector design
  • Demonstrate experience in working with a variety of laboratory instrumentation, including ability to troubleshoot equipment whenever problems arise and resolve problems quickly
  • Must be able to work well without direct supervision after training period
