Salary: $40.00/hour

Job Summary:
Your position as Staff Nurse supports this mission in your daily care of Andrew House patients. This is a non-exempt position.
Requirements for the Position
  • Massachusetts registration and license
  • Three years hospital experience is required, at least one year of which involved acute admissions on either a medical, surgical or emergency service
  • Prior substance use disorder or mental health treatment experience preferred
  • A COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement of the position. One COVID-19 shot is acceptable, contingent on the individual receiving the second shot within the allotted time frame.

Physical Qualifications:
  • Must be physically able to participate in the Bay Cove CPR and CPI trainings and be able to endure the physical strain of performing CPR for several minutes while awaiting assistance
Essential Functions of Position:
  • Responsible for care of patients on unit
  • Monitors vital signs and notify M.D. as necessary
  • Assess changes in patient conditions
  • Medicates PRN, according to standing orders
  • Telephone and initial screening of all patients for admission, obtaining as medically accurate history as possible
  • Keeps accurate nursing notes describing patients' physical conditions and activities
  • Records all medications
  • Ensures supervision of orderlies
  • Performs narcotic count at beginning and end of shift
  • Provides thorough and accurate report of patients' status to oncoming shift
  • Reports unusual events to Nurse Manager
  • Observes for signs and symptoms of medication toxicity
  • Observe for signs and symptoms of Psychiatric decompensation
  • Conducts ongoing condition checks as required for patients on the unit
  • Sets appropriate boundaries/limits with patients
  • Participates in ongoing discharge planning with counseling staff and administrators
Specific to Shifts
7a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Daily report with counseling staff
  • Assure that capable patients attend meetings and other groups
  • Admission Nursing Physical Assessment
3p.m. - 11 p.m.
  • Assure all capable patients attend commitment meetings
  • Do any filing of patient records (discharges) left by 7 to 3 shift
  • Daily report with counseling staff
11 p.m. - 7 a.m.
  • Rounds should be made at least every hour through the night for the most stable patients and more frequently according to need of the less stable patients
  • Check on forms, making up charts
  • Line narcotic book PRN
  • Pull charts for patient to be discharged
