ABOUT THIS ROLE:
Parks recently updated its strategic vision and incorporated Prince William County's Strategic Vision into action plans The primary duties of the position include: Performing advanced level professional work developing plans and construction drawings for the development and maintenance of park construction projects in accordance with the County's overall Comprehensive Plan and Design and Construction Manual.
The incumbent will manage complex design and construction projects from inception to project close out with a high degree of autonomy.
Responsibilities include managing an entire phase of project development such as design or construction; coordinating, reviewing, and approving plans and specifications for construction; coordination and involvement in the public process, performing constructability reviews, evaluating bids, negotiating design contracts, and making feasibility recommendations; and managing and evaluating projects budget and schedule. The Principal Engineer will also design and construct designs and construction of recreation projects which includes, road way and parking construction, not limited to facilities and building, recreational fields and sidewalks or trails.

In addition to meeting minimum qualifications, the professional best suited for this expert level position will be naturally inclined to be a strong advocate for passive and active recreation, and cultural and natural resource protection. He or she must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while providing planning and communication skills. Superb communication and organizational skills are mandatory in order to establish and exceed customer and stakeholder expectations. Experience working for an accredited agency is a plus.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
Monday through Friday, but may require occasional after hours, evenings or weekend.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 4 years of related experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Building Development:
Valid Driver's License; Must become certified as a Technical Assistant to the Building Official in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the Virginia Certification Standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
